Loved my stay here. This was my first ever time staying in a hostel, and it was exactly what I needed. Friendly employees, good spaces to study/work, good security, great food! I only had one roommate in my 6 person dorm, so that was fine but I can't speak for the full experience of all travelers. The buildings seem very historic and fit neatly into the landscape of NW Portland. I feel very happy now knowing that I have a cheap place to stay and feel welcome if I'm ever back in Portland again.

I’ve stayed in hostels all across the world and this is one of my favorites! The vintage architecture is absolutely beautiful and special to stay in. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cafe attached has delicious food. Also many fun events happening in the court yard during my stay like music and comedy. Location is perfectly located near downtown Portland! 10/10 would do again.

Great location, beautiful building and the new addition shows attention to the design of the surrounding homes and guest house! Accessible to many modes of transit. The service and friendliness of a hostel is always the best part of a stay. Here is no exception! The single rooms are charming and a plus all around (except accessibility). Group rooms are safe and great minus a thin mattress and echo from the halls. Bathrooms and water temp were great! The room doors are heavy and a bit hard to close quietly, so you may feel bad to leave the room at night or return late out of respect for others. Great little breakfast to start the day. Great gathering spaces. I recommend!

I need to add my two cents as 1,000 people explaining why they love this place is not clear enough. I have given up my regular room at the Ritz because this place has a better location, comfy clean rooms, fun social events, nice kitchens (plus great cafe when you are busy/lazy) and the nicest, friendliest, most helpful staff. And the prices are reasonable. Why bother with anywhere else?

Loved my stay at the hostel. The place had a great welcoming vibe. The building was quaint. The rooms had everything I needed. The toilets were spacious, clean, and available. The location felt safe and was easy to get to downtown either by walking or the streetcar. The Hostel Cafe provided quality food if you didn't want to use the kitchen to cook.

I came here two years ago and stayed in a dorm. I couldn’t believe the size of the hostel and the amount of local events! It is in a great location!! I came back here recently for a few nights and stayed in a private room which was also amazing. The hostel is so clean and the staff are super kind - shout out to Chelsea, Vicili, and Sophie !! Definitely recommend NW Portland Hostel!! I’ll be back soon! Thanks again for a great stay !!!

I've stayed at a lot of hostels and this was one of the best :) Check in: the guy on desk was clearly new but super helpful and friendly! All the staff were great. Rooms: I stayed in a 6 bed dorm - very clean, great sturdy comfortable beds with power outlets and lights, great ensuite bathroom, good size lockers, and plenty of space. Facilities: there's a bar with good food and drinks, a good kitchen, a lounge/breakfast area (with a free bagel & coffee/tea breakfast for guests), cheap laundry machines, an outdoor smoking area. Security is also good, and all the shared bathrooms were spotless. Events: there seems to be something on every day or night. I was there for the quiz night which was good. Honestly everything was perfect, it's a very well run place with great friendly staff :) I'll be straight back here if I go to Portland again!

this place is super great for the price! there was live irish music when we got there and we got a tour even though we were only staying one night. love the old house vibes and everything was nice and clean. the bagel for breakfast was also pretty good.
